Welcome to the Speak up! module

This package of documents is part of our Try it! support programme for teachers of English in Germany and Austria. Take your time reading and listening. The files are free to download.

Here is what you can find this month:

Speak up! board (powered by Padlet), where Simona offers a speaking lesson in three steps: observe, draw idea maps with language, speak. The focus is on brainstorming and structuring ideas when students need to sustain longer speech (for example by describing or comparing photos). Follow the arrows on the board and click to view or listen to the files embedded.

Lesson plans and activities including teacher’s notes for CEFR levels B1, B2, and C1, with an extra lesson for Business English at B1-level. All lessons exemplify the three steps shown on the Padlet above, using Cambridge English exam tasks at the corresponding level.

You can download and print out the activities, and use them in your next Speaking class.

Statistics on how well German and Austrian candidates score in the Speaking papers of our B2 First and C1 Advanced exams, compared to the rest of the world. The statistics also provide a useful clue as to what areas our students are best at, along with those where they can still improve.
