Karnatak Law Society’s Gogte Institute of Technology (KLS GIT) is a Cambridge English Preparation Centre, and was recognised in the Cambridge English ‘South Asia Best 25 Preparation Centre Awards for Higher Education’ in 2017.
KLS GIT aims to train its students to become quality engineers with a high standard of professionalism and ethics. Therefore, it strives to provide education and training with a blend of communication, soft and techno-managerial skills.
The Institute has always prioritised English language studies for its students, and recognises the importance of English in the global scenario.
The journey from BEC to Linguaskill
To increase students’ English language proficiency, it has made Communicative English a mandatory course for first-year Engineering students, and the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC, Level B1) a compulsory course for those on the MBA programme.
From 2016 to 2019, Engineering students took BEC at Preliminary level (Level B1) as a part of mandatory language proficiency certification, within the syllabus.
In 2020, KLS GIT switched from BEC to Linguaskill Business, an online test powered by artificial intelligence. Linguaskill tests students’ English level in all four language skills – reading, listening, writing, and speaking – in modules.
The test is very easy to administer and accurate results are provided within 48 hours. Moreover, results are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), the international standard for describing language ability.
