Experts from the higher education sector in Türkiye will come together to discuss the key English language challenges facing universities, at this year’s EURIE Summit in Istanbul. The Higher Education Consortium in Türkiye, is made up of senior representatives from 12 universities. It was set up by Cambridge University Press & Assessment in 2023 and provides a platform to discuss topics such as the English language challenges universities face, teacher training and development, and how AI is changing the higher education landscape.
‘We originally started the group to help tackle the challenges universities faced during the pandemic such as supporting their students switching to online learning,’ explained Dr Hisham AlSaghbini from Cambridge University Press & Assessment. He continued: the group has found new life beyond Covid, and we now meet regularly to discuss the big topics and challenges that all universities face concerning English language assessment. We’ve built a real expert community that continues to grow, and we work to find solutions for our learners and provide them with the right tools they need for success’.
The consortium has recently added a research component to its work focusing on two themes - the English proficiency challenges students face when at university, and what this means when they graduate. As part of this research programme Dr. Brigita Séguis from the Impact evaluation team at Cambridge will present on how they work with students, teachers, schools, parents, universities, and ministries of education to measure our impact on people learning and teaching English.
Sally Brown, Director of Cambridge Assessment Network, will also talk on the importance of Assessment as a career pathway in Higher Education. During the EURIE event, there will also be a signing ceremony to welcome the first batch of universities who have joined the The Higher Education Consortium in Türkiye.
