Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Strategic Pilot Resourcing Team) approves Cambridge test for use.
Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) has adopted Linguaskill, a new online test of English produced by Cambridge Assessment English, as the English language test for the recruitment of new graduates who will join the company in 2020 to be trained as pilots.
According to JAL’s Strategic Pilot Resourcing Team, Flight Operations Division,
“We were interested in an English proficiency test to see whether or not applicants have the basic English skills needed in order for them to develop their speaking ability further up to the minimum required level for pilots, and contacted Cambridge Assessment English. They evaluate test-takers against the CEFR standards, which is said to be a reference to the English language proficiency level defined by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Having learned that Linguaskill provides a test with a focus on English speaking skills and, above all, provides test results very rapidly, best matched our recruitment process. After in-depth consideration, including the implementation of trial tests which gave highly satisfactory results in terms of operational stability and assessment, we used Linguaskill as the English speaking test during the recruitment of new graduates who will join the company in 2020, to be trained as pilots.”
The examination introduced by JAL is the Linguaskill (General) speaking test, which is designed to measure the English language ability of high school students, university students, and working people. Linguaskill is a modular test covering all four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. The test is modular, so it is possible to use only the speaking test.
The results are returned to the test centre two UK business days after the test. Linguaskill tests in Japan are administered by Kawaijuku Cambridge English Assessment Team.
