GenAI, sustainability and integrated learning and assessment (ILA) were just some of the big topics discussed at a recent event for English teachers and educational leaders in Dublin. The Cambridge Day Dublin was organised by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and brought together school leaders, exam centre managers and English teachers from across Ireland.
The event provided a fantastic opportunity to hear some of the latest thinking on the big topics facing the sector.
“English teachers in Ireland play a pivotal role in inspiring and empowering learners to achieve their goals,” said Joel Cutting, Country Manager for the UK & Ireland at Cambridge. He continued: “Teachers face challenges such as integrating sustainability into lessons, navigating new technologies like AI, and balancing learning with effective assessment strategies. At Cambridge, we’re committed to supporting educators every step of the way, providing them with innovative resources, expert insights, and a comprehensive approach to teaching and assessment.”
Speakers included Jade Blue, an English Teacher, Trainer and Researcher, who presented on the importance of sustainability in Education. In her talk “Building a Brighter Future: Activities to Equip Learners with Sustainability Skills” she offered teachers strategies to integrate sustainability into English teaching.
Jasmin Silver, an Education Consultant and Researcher, explored AI in Language Learning in her talk “Can AI Help Us Solve Age-Old Problems in Teaching and Learning?”, sharing practical AI tools and examples teachers can apply directly in their classrooms.
Cambridge’s Cecilia Harmer (pictured) asked “How Can We Fully Integrate Learning and Assessment to Boost Results?”. Her talk covered how ILA transforms assessment into an active part of the learning journey, helping students reflect, grow and achieve better outcomes by embedding assessment opportunities seamlessly within daily lessons.
