New and existing tourist guides in Mexico can now use selected Cambridge English exams to prove they have the essential English language skills needed for the job.
The Mexican Ministry of Tourism, through the Office of Professionalization and Tourism Competitiveness, has officially recognised selected Cambridge English exams as proof of English language ability. This means that new and existing tourist guides can now show they have met the minimum B2 language requirement for the job using the following Cambridge English exams: Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency, and Linguaskill Certifications.
In Mexico, it is mandatory for tourist guides to have achieved at least a B2 level of English proficiency according to (CEFR), which is the international standard of language ability.
“Tourist guides play such an essential role in helping visitors have a memorable experience of Mexico, but it’s essential that they have the English language skills they need for the job” commented Hazel Mariscal. She continued: “It’s fantastic that the Ministry of Tourism has chosen Cambridge English. We develop all our qualifications, so they cover the types of language skills you need in the real world. This will mean tourist guides using Cambridge English exams will be really confident with their English skills. This will help them to communicate with visitors from all over the world, explain cultural, historical, and geographical concepts, and respond fluently to questions in English’.
The Mexican Ministry of Tourism joins a growing list of organisations around the world which rely on Cambridge English as proof of English language ability. This includes universities, employers, and governments.
