What is the Impact Framework?
The impact framework is an integral part of the Impact by Design model. Its domains, areas and indicators enable us to measure, evaluate and report on impact in a consistent, transparent and systematic way.
Impact domains and key areas
The framework has three Impact domains that mirror the focus of the English Product Group. These are Learning, Teaching and Assessment. Each domain includes a number of impact areas, and each impact area has a range of indicators against which we can measure performance. For example, in the Learning domain we can measure the impact area of language proficiency by looking at the percentage of learners meeting the intended CEFR level.
Impact evaluation and the Framework
The Impact Framework is the basis for any impact evaluation that is carried out. Impact evaluation studies provide us with an opportunity to gather more detailed data on learning, teaching and assessment products, propositions and programmes in their specific contexts. The impact areas in the Framework guide the focus of the studies, and, similarly to the Impact by Design cycle, data can be both qualitative and quantitative, and come from a range of sources.
